August 26, 2026 - The Elbows-Up Delusion

Although I don’t agree with their modus operandi, I oddly admire the tenacity of the “elbows up” mob in Canada. The ability of this group to avoid logic and counter any debate with virtue signalling and vengeful victimhood is a constant source of fascination. Unfortunately, fascination alone cannot counterbalance the damage this group has inflicted and continues to inflict upon Canadians.

First, it should be remembered that more than 70% of Canada’s exports go to the U.S. and Canada has run a trade surplus with the U.S. for at least 40 years. These two facts alone suggest it would be impossible for Canada to “win” an all-out trade war with America. Add to this the fact that Canada is a small economic machine—whose total GDP is smaller than that of several U.S. states—and the idea that Canada has leverage over the U.S. is laughable.

Despite this lack of leverage, many suspect Carney is banking on the upcoming U.S. midterm elections to provide the leverage that we do not have. Should this trade war persist beyond November, there is no doubt Canada will lose the trade war and Canadians will suffer, at least financially.

Second, Canada’s leadership has globalist intentions that are on view for those that care to view the world objectively. For example, when China imposed a 100% tariff on Canadian canola oil (and other products) in 2025, not a single prominent Liberal suggested boycotting China. Instead, Carney made concessions, and went against the U.S. and the EU to allow some Chinese EVs into Canada. Carney willfully broke ranks.

Whether at Brookfield or as our PM, Carney’s willingness to make deals with China while repeatedly emphasizing the end of U.S. global leadership is both strange and unsettling. Beyond the obvious geographical considerations, Canada’s cultural, military, and familial ties to the U.S. are deeply rooted. Canada’s ties to communist China are, on the surface, little more than transactional.

In short, many in Canada who despise Trump with blinding passion are likely too far gone to bring back from the brink with facts and logic. We can only hope and pray they see the long-term threats that being chummy with China poses to Canada if and when their short-term anti-Trump myopia fades. That reawakening may be wishful thinking so long as the greatest obstacle to setting aside this hypocritical victimhood remains in charge: Carney.
